Case 01 · Family emergency impersonation

The Grandchild Call

A familiar voice is not independent proof.

Three-panel illustration of an older adult receiving an alarming call, Scamurai blocking the pressure, and the adult independently calling family.
  1. Panel 1 · The hook

An older adult receives an urgent call from someone claiming to be a grandchild in danger. The caller sounds distressed and knows personal family details.

  2. Panel 2 · The pressure test

Scamurai raises the evidence shield. The red flags line up: a sudden emergency, secrecy, a supposed lawyer, and a demand for cash or bail before anyone else can be called.

  3. Panel 3 · The safe response

The adult ends the call and uses a saved family number. The real grandchild is safe. A family verification phrase and independent callback break the script.

The evidence test

Hang up. Call the relative or another family member through a number already saved. Ask a question or use a family phrase the caller could not learn from social media.

Never let the script choose the channel

Do not call the lawyer, police, or bondsman number supplied by the caller. Do not send a courier, gift card, wire, or crypto payment.

Case 02 · Romance and catfishing

The Borrowed Face

Affection is real. The identity still needs proof.

Three-panel illustration of an adult drawn into an online romance, Scamurai revealing identity inconsistencies, and a trusted friend helping verify the account.
  1. Panel 1 · The hook

A polished online profile offers fast affection, constant messages, and the promise of a shared future. The conversation quickly moves to a private messaging app.

  2. Panel 2 · The pressure test

A crisis or “secret” investment appears. Scamurai compares the story with the evidence: reused photos, inconsistent locations, a refusal to verify live, and a fake platform that shows profits but blocks withdrawal.

  3. Panel 3 · The safe response

The payment stops. A trusted friend joins the review. They check the image and account independently, preserve the evidence, and report the impersonating profile.

The evidence test

Search the photo outside the conversation, compare account history, request spontaneous non-sensitive live verification, and never use an investment platform selected by an online-only contact.

Protect the person, not just the money

Do not mock the relationship or demand an instant confession. Emotional attachment is part of the crime. Calm support makes it easier to stop and report.

Case 03 · Online grooming

The Secret Channel

The first safe response is belief without blame.

Three-panel illustration of a teen receiving gifts and secrecy requests online, Scamurai and a trusted adult explaining the pattern, and the account being blocked and reported.
  1. Panel 1 · The hook

A friendly account shares the teen’s interests, sends praise and game gifts, then asks to leave a public space for a secret channel.

  2. Panel 2 · The pressure test

Scamurai and a trusted adult name the pattern without accusing the teen: identity mismatch, gifts that create obligation, secrecy, boundary testing, and isolation from safer public spaces.

  3. Panel 3 · The safe response

Together they preserve relevant account and message evidence, block and report the user, adjust safety settings, and reconnect the teen with trusted support.

The evidence test

Ask what changed in the relationship: gifts, age claims, secrecy, private-channel pressure, image requests, threats, or a planned meeting. Do not require the child to confront the account.

The safety sentence

“You are not in trouble. We will handle this together.” Do not download or redistribute suspected child sexual abuse material; use the platform’s report flow and the CyberTipline.
