VOLUME 05 / LICENSING

A path for open work, commercial work, and public-benefit work.

Toshokann can be used under the repository's open-source license or under a separate written agreement when an organization needs different terms. The controlling rights always come from the applicable license text or signed agreement.

OPEN-SOURCE / AGPL-3.0-ONLY

Use the repository under the AGPL

The Toshokann source in this repository is offered under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3.0 only, without a license fee. The AGPL permits commercial and noncommercial use when its terms are followed.

Individuals, businesses, nonprofits, schools, community organizations, and governments may all use the AGPL path. Read the complete license before deploying, modifying, distributing, or providing a modified version over a network.

COMMERCIAL / NEGOTIATED

Request terms different from the AGPL

For Toshokann material The Wizard Nexus LLC owns or is otherwise authorized to license, an organization may request a separate written commercial license for proprietary products, closed-source derivatives, private white-label deployments, or other needs that cannot meet AGPL obligations.

Scope, fees, support, updates, branding, and other terms are determined in the written agreement. An inquiry, conversation, proposal, or quote is not a license grant.

Commercial notice

PUBLIC BENEFIT / CASE BY CASE

Request a no-cost license, derivative, or both

Qualifying nonprofits, educational programs, community and public-interest organizations, open-knowledge projects, and other public-benefit users may request a no-cost alternative written license, a no-cost configured Toshokann derivative, or both.

Eligibility and scope are considered case by case. Until a written grant is issued, the AGPL remains the available license.

Path comparison

The grant, not the label, controls.

AGPL-3.0-only
No separate license fee. Commercial use is allowed, but every use remains subject to the AGPL's requirements, including its source-availability requirements when they apply.
Separate commercial license
Negotiated written terms for Toshokann material that The Wizard Nexus owns or is authorized to license. Appropriate when proprietary or otherwise different rights are required.
No-cost public-benefit path
A case-by-case written grant, configured derivative, or both for a qualifying organization or program. The written grant defines the covered version, organization, use, duration, redistribution terms, and support boundary.

Access context

Public documentation and source access are separate things.

This GitHub Pages site is public project documentation. The Toshokann GitHub repository or particular source versions may be private or available only to authorized recipients. Reading these pages, viewing a notice, or requesting repository access does not itself grant source access or alternative license rights.

When repository source is made available under its root LICENSE, the stated path is AGPL-3.0-only, including for commercial use that complies with those terms. A separate written agreement may define different access or use rights for the material it expressly covers.

Rights and service boundaries

A license covers only the rights it says it covers.

Third-party rights
A separate agreement can cover only material The Wizard Nexus owns or is authorized to license. Third-party components, trademarks, content, models, services, and contributions may carry their own terms.
Derivative scope
A configured derivative may include identity, appearance, taxonomy, catalog structure, and supported workflows only to the extent stated in writing.
Services not implied
No path automatically includes hosting, content preparation, preservation services, ongoing support, updates, warranty, indemnity, or third-party services.
